Gaston College’s Veterinary Medical Technology program has been educating students to assist veterinarians keep our furry, feathered, and scaly family members healthy throughout our region for over 15 years.
With a consistent licensure exam pass rate well above the state average and because 100% our graduates find employment in their fields immediately upon graduation, our program is highly regarded throughout our region. As a matter of fact, our program has been ranked #14 on the list of Top 50 Veterinary Technician Programs in 2017 by TheBestColleges.org. Check out their rankings here.
So that our program can grow, we need a larger and more up-to-date space than we currently have. Construction will begin in the fall of 2018 on a new 14,500 square foot Veterinary Technology facility to include an administrative area with two offices and a work room and a student area comprised of one general classroom, one computer classroom, and a student lounge. The building will also house a reception area, animal exam rooms, surgery suites, a radiology room, and spaces to board, groom, exercise and care for the animals in our program.
This nearly $6,000,000 project will be funded largely through public funds provided by NC voters through the passing of the 2016 NC Connect Bond referendum, as well as an additional state appropriation passed in 2018, there is still a need to raise $500,000 for equipment so that our students have the opportunity to learn in an environment reflective of veterinary offices today.
