  • George Ratchford - October 12, 2016

    George Ratchford

Mr. Ratchford entered the working world at the young age of 13. After school and on Saturdays, he bagged groceries and stocked shelves at his uncle’s grocery store in West Gastonia. Born in Gastonia, Ratchford lived in Dallas until he was 10. He attended Gaston County Schools. By the time he was 15, his budding working career had branched out into mowing neighborhood lawns.

Obviously, George was never afraid of hard work and that work ethic has served him well for many years.  In the early 1980s he was a recent high school graduate without a clear vision for his future and that’s where his journey with PSNC began and he started laying natural gas lines for them.  While not the most glamorous of jobs, George said that being on a line crew gave him the opportunity to see what engineers do, and that planted a seed for his future.  After two years of laying pipe for PSNC, Ratchford headed back to school with no intention of returning to the gas company.

After completing his degree at Gaston College, Mr. Ratchford went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.  Upon graduation, George intended to take a position in Charlotte, but PSNC drew him back in.

Over the course of his 30+ year history with PSNC Energy, he has managed several areas of the organization, including engineering, construction, materials management and customer service operations. Today he is the vice president of operations for the natural gas utility.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, George has served his community as a civic leader for many years.  Currently, he is the Chairman of the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce.

He attributes much of his success to having a supportive family.  He and his wife of 29 years, Kelley, are the proud parents of two daughters, Peyton and Alexis.
